The new Pirates Bar on
Kota Kinabalu Waterfront, with its
innovated approach for providing visitors with what they want is causing consternation with owners of other outlets on the waterfront, who fear they will loose business, The Waterfront is an area of
Kota Kinabalu which could rival Clark Quay in Singapore, which is packed with bars and
restaurants. Competition is good for both business and visitors because it raises the standards of service, more and better outlets bring in more people. If and when the
Kota Kinabalu waterfront project is ever completed there may be hundreds of competing outlets.
Kota Kinabalu is wanting a seafront to rival those in Cape Town, Sydney, San Francisco etc, so attitudes will need to change if this is to be
successful.
The area of the waterfront where the Pirates Bar - Taste of Borneo has set up, has recently been a no go area with three closed outlets and the boardwalk taken over by local youths drinking cheep spirits and taking drugs.
The first few days have seen the local youths being encouraged to move on as visitors once again regain the boardwalk to watch the beautiful sunsets.
